All About Babies
Traditionally, the first argument that comes up in favor of these techniques tends to be the psuedo-religious one that “every child is a gift". While that is a very nice sentiment, it ignores a lot of the truths of modern society. Sure, in biblical times nothing could have been truer. Having more children meant more people to take care of you when you get older. More men to work the farm, tend the fields, or just carry on the family trade, generating wealth. It meant more women to marry off, producing dowry. It also meant that a tiny religious group who was marginalized had a chance to flourish to a point they could no longer be oppressed.
2000 years later, things have changed a bit. We live in a world that is bursting at the seams with people. The natural resources we depend on so desperately as a society are drying up and yet our numbers continue to multiply. To add to the problem, this very same lifestyle produces an enormous amount of toxic byproducts that (whether you believe in global warming or not) are poisoning the air and water we depend on to sustain us in all ways. These are FACTS and not conjecture. Reproducing beyond replacement levels becomes more irresponsible every day, because the more people on the planet, the more toxins we need and will continue to pump into our environment.
