An Open Response to Michael Moore Pt II

Now that we’ve debunked Mr Moore’s assertion that nobody knows how this financial crisis came to be, let’s examine some of his other claims. He characterizes voters as hostages in any proposed bailout that would help banks regain their footing, as though everything is going to be just fine without any intervention. Of course some firms will try to take advantage of government intervention. It is the job of oversight committees to ensure they cannot.

An Open Response to Michael Moore

Link: http://www.michaelmoore.com/words/message/index.php?id=235

Begrudgingly I read this, and while getting through the first half of the letter was hard, because it is so unacceptably slanted with lies of omission, the second half actually makes a reasonable argument. I do agree that medical expenses overburden many Americans to the point they just don’t have enough money to pay the mortgage and this problem can be attributed to many Americans who suffer home foreclosures. That is really tough, but what is there some kind of mass super virus out there that magically made a few million people so sick they had to go to the hospital I haven’t heard about? While that may be a contributing factor, you can hardly establish causation. The real problem here isn’t that people suddenly got poorer. It’s about the banking practices that set people up for failure.

Because Lindsay Lohan Says So

Lindsay Lohan is in the news again, and this time NOT for being a drunken coke whore. It appears the starlet now has view about politics she wants to express. Good for her.

Obviously, I’m not the big fan of Lindsay Lohan. She hasn’t exactly contributed any serious and great art to the world. She’s no John Malkovich. It’s great that she’s sober enough to consider something of greater import than whether to “go commando” today or not, but I doubt she’s doing much to help Obama or Hurt McCain/Palin with her publicity whoring.

Toronto International Film Festival

That’s where I’ve been. The TIFF (Toronto International Film Festival) has gained notoriety as on of the top film festivals in the world and this year included some quality films that were worth seeing. On my agenda were the following:

Deadgirl 09/06/2008 11:59pm

Tears for Sale 09/10/2008 09:15pm

Eden Log 09/11/2008 11:59pm

Sexykiller 09/12/2008 11:59pm

VPILF

Unless you live in a vortex, you can’t not know about Sen John McCain’s sensational new VP pick, Gov Sarah Palin. On the surface, she’s the perfect candidate. She keeps a loose stance on gun control, favors anti-abortion legislature, and shares a similar political compass to McCain. The once beauty queen has left comedians and radio personalities like Rush Limbaugh saying, “We’re the ones with a babe on the ticket”, so when I friend of mine referred to her as the VPILF (Vice President I’d Like to F–k), I wasn’t all that surprised, but it does raise some interesting questions.
